I had the great pleasure to work with some Sussex and Surrey chestnut on a few recent projects. Thank you very much to Steve at J E Homewood and Sussex timber framer Paddy Cox for supplying the wood. It was my first time working with chestnut and I see now why it is so highly valued. It cleaves and works beautifully, has almost no sap wood and very durable heartwood. Lovely.

From a sutainabilty stand point it would be great if I could source chestnut locally. As it is I have family in Surrey so can pick up some chestnut when I visit, so no extra trips incurred. I still though have to transport heavy logs all the way down the M4.

So if anyone in west wales is growing chestnut please do get in touch.
