Tool list
Please find below a recommended tool list for the 4 week spoon carving course. This will ensure you have a set of tools that will get you started and allow you to progress in spoon carving without breaking the bank. I’ve tested all the tools below and think for the price they offer very good quality.
If you have your own tools you are of course very welcome to bring those. Please note though that the sharpening on the first day is aimed at honing tools that already have near enough the right edge geometry. If you turn up with a battered hatchet we won’t have the time to get that into good carving condition. I’m very happy to offer advice on regrinding old axes prior to the course start date.
- Bacho carving axe (please note it comes with a sheaf option but you will make your own as part of the first day)
- £35
- Mora 120
- £21.00
- Mora 106 (if you wish I can offer you a custom ground version that we will use as our finishing knife)
- £22.50
- £25.00 for custom ground
- Svante Djarv hook knife (this is the only tool that I’ve decided to recommend that is a more expensive option. It is 2.5 x more expensive than the Mora 164 but I believe it is worth making this investment early, it is a brilliant knife).
- £88.00
- Sharpening set
- £27.00
Total price: £196.00
Woodsmith (a brilliant craft tool store) have very kindly offered all Coppice Plot students 5% off tools. I’ll send the code to individuals on signing up for the course.
